At Lindsey A. Robinson DDS Pediatric and Endodontic Dentistry our business is your oral health. Because we take your oral health so seriously, we try to adopt only the best in proven, dental technology. Digital X-rays are one of the most valuable tools that we have in our detection and prevention arsenal. Using digital X-rays, we can see into the hidden structures of your mouth, like the bone and between your teeth to see the reality of your current oral health.
What is a digital X-Ray?
A digital X-ray is a machine that we use to help us see into the internal structures of your mouth. Traditional X-ray machines are what you are probably familiar with; they were large, slow, and relatively dangerous compared to their new, digital counterparts. You can compare traditional and digital X-ray technology to film cameras and digital cameras. Digital cameras produce a digital format picture that can be viewed almost immediately, whereas a film camera must undergo the process of film development, which is costly and takes time.
How Digital X-Rays Work
Digital X-rays work using digital X-ray sensors to pick up the image rather than a film that must be developed. Because digital X-rays use a digital format, we can view the results almost immediately after taking the X-ray. We can analyze and share the X-rays with you directly after taking them and if there was an issue with the result, we will know right away and can take a new set of X-rays immediately instead of having to wait for development.
One of the biggest benefits of digital X-rays is that they are instantly transferrable to specialists and other doctors that we may need to collaborate with on your oral health issues. If for example, you have a prosthodontist that is working on a prosthetic for your mouth, we can share your digital X-ray history with them immediately and privately over secure lines.
Safe For You and Your Family
Digital X-rays provide the added benefit of using roughly one-fifth the amount of radiation that a traditional X-ray machine uses. Meaning, digital X-rays expose you and your family to one-fifth the amount of radiation of a traditional X-ray, well below the recommended limit of radiation.
Intraoral cameras are another technology that brings you value here at Lindsey A. Robinson DDS Pediatric and Endodontic Dentistry. Using these cameras, we can show you a live feed of what's going on inside your mouth during your examination. In the past, we would have to do our best to explain what was going on inside your mouth and hope that we did a good enough job that you understood where the issue was and how to fix it. Now we can show you exactly what we are talking about as we stream a live feed of the inside of your mouth for you to watch on a computer monitor in front of the exam chair.
